I must concur with both the first and second comments with equal weight. For the record I have always found Setec and his "highwaymen" most charming and amusing rogues ... but one must never forget that one is dealing with blaggards and cutpurses fundimentally. There is no "romance" of the spacelanes that makes losing a cargo or suffering predation more pleasant ... though in truth, a jaunty quip and well rehersed comedic gesture of humanity and mirth do somewhat soften the blow mayhap at times.
Still, pirates are pirates, and ultimately the responsibility falls upon those with means to excercise such sanction as they chose to answer the affront to their dignity and pockets! I for example, saw a corpmate podded and was myself shot at repeatedly by the Space Invader blockade at Ewok-k ... glad I didn't stop to negotiate in retrospect!
But what the hey ... eve is hardly a prayer circle or victims anonymous group!
I'll make public offer of 2.5million isk in exchange for the frozen corpse of Molly of the Space Invaders; I do believe the resleeved clone of my late lamented friend Ragadude would appreciate the gesture a little.
And Molly my dear, like I said, its nothing personal ... just business ; I did enjoy our chat and look forward to continuing our discourse through the medium of your next clone!
So m'dears, which brave boy is going to take up the gauntlet and earn the thanks and fine regard of this Gallente maiden?
I'm sure the ISK will not be of vital importance to the paladins of just and appropriate vengeance so pledged ... but ; ah well, I'll keep it handy nonetheless!
Kind Regards

Well Viceroy dear chap; there are some bitter realities on parade tonight ... just as highwaymen walk a moonlit path of romantic criminality and sensuous robbery, so do corporations re-write the facts with public relations broad sheets and spin doctored after action reports!
Really dear Sir, all is fair in love and war, and no more can be expected in the medium of pirate and victim.
It's entirely expected that pirates and illegals will prey upon soft targets as and when they become exposed to such unkind attentions ...
But so to will the corporations and communications directors of galactic enterprises paint such dashing villains in the darkest of lights and most unflattering shades of malign transposition.
Its the way of things,
Honestly ... black powder pistols at 20 paces had a lot going for them.
Still ... my offer stands and hey ... lets increase it ... 3.5 million for a frozen Molly statue for my gallent fallen comrade!
Who can say fairer than that?
Regards

[re the late lamented Ragadude] ... I say "fallen" when I actually mean; "blown to smitherines and mercilessly podded to sub genetic smear!"
And in case I didn't make my last point clearly enough ...
Pirates and Illegals can certainly act as they please;
But even "lovely fluffy" corps can tell porky pies and spin the facts to suit their PR needs. How many pirate corps employ image consultants hmmm ?
Lots of luv

Ah Setec, 'twould be fast unwonted hard critique to name you less than dashing relentless rogue of dauntless means and deadly force.
I have no doubt your chaps will do you proud ... and certainly ... my ugly hauler "Summer Rain" was chaffed aspace this eve at the passing of your corpmate's blockade.
Ah alas, people will chatter, and its difficult to maintain the mystique when the wheels of rumour and slanderous misrepresentation start turning. So tricky indeed to build the legend on foundations pressed with jealous harsh regard and nithling market economics.
But by the by;
[And despite my fervent wish to buy dear Molly's corpse with wanton ISK]
Would you be kind enough to come to dinner? My treat, I know a lovely little place in Luminaire, washed by the golden light of sun and nebula transposed in poetic radiance.
'Twould be a pleasant interlude and chance to speak on other matters than war and brutal duelling fury.
Evemail me dear chap,
If you wish it,

Master Armen Dzhezkov,
How delightful! I read your charming account of the productive use to which Molly's previous corpse was placed and now find myself in a very quandry of indecision;
On the one hand I would do dearly like to buy it from you to comfort my poor recovering corp member clone (all fresh from the vats and sans dreadlocks and attitute)
While on the other; who can deny the artistic validity of the use you have found for Molly I?
Ah, 'tis a puzzle and daunting one at that;
Would you sell "her" to me Armen? I could certainly promise to ensure that we treat the deceased with every bit as much as love and care as Epiphany has lavished thus far.
With fine regard.

Molly m'dear;
Do not fear that business opportunity is forever lost! I have a solution perchance that might be of interest should the world weary ennui raise to prominence and the lust for velvet solitude eclipse the beating joy of living heart.
Or to speak more plainly;
Why not ...
Blow yourself up? leave a message to your clone to sell me your body ... I'll happily pay you 3.5m for your own corpse.
Everybody would be happy mon cherie;
(and after all, how many dashing pirates can claim to have been paid 3.5isk to "blow" themselves??)

Ah Molly,
As for "trying" to acquire a more recent body, remember my sweet, 'tis not for fury or strident anger I ask, and neither does any rage for abstract wrongs nor scant justice reft assunder thence before that drives my thinking and my lips in this.
No indeed, 'tis merely token for departed friend, a trinket and a keepstake talisman of past events.
I've no desire to see you transfixed on the quad mod beams of my good ship "Guns Akimbo" ; indeed so crass that action and resolve I almost weep a tear of dry embarrassment that you think i'd be so motivated.
Ah milady, I know well the ways of rogues and pirates and brigands and blaggarts and romantic dips and cut purse fellons.
No "fair" engagement would you treat me, and neither would I ask. Alas such actions as the trapping of slippery fish are surplus to my social schedule, and after all vive la liberte ... in the spirit of free enterprise let a hunter court thy dead embrace and win the colours of my favour wrapped around a hearty roll of isk.
No m'dear, no candlelit rendevue and pistol *****s at dawn for thee and I, no pursed lips and hearts afire with uncertain fast excitement.
'tis simply business milady,
not personal.
All my love though ...

Ah non milady Gwyneth; I can confirm the blockade at Ewok-k was in place for at least a little while, and apparent requests for involuntary funding were made. I myself failed to notice the challenge; but was fortunate in running the blockade regardless; alas (as mentioned earlier in this thread) a late lamented friend was not so lucky and was blown to smithereens in his Maller before having his pod popped like a ripe plumb for good measure.
I do believe a deal of sense has been spoken here though; good master Setec has repeatedly explained the concept of robbery to the hard of comprehension and many have learned something of the nature of asymmetrical crisis negotiation.
For my part? Well, if caught I would certainly pay. Only a fool would see a lovely prized rare module equipped ship blown to bits for mere foolish pride and misguided principles.
But that said; remember there are entire corporations of heroic pilots with cruisers and assorted armed vessels trying to make a living as mercenaries and bounty hunters ą its rank selfishness not to cut these chaps a slice of the revenge pie ;)
And bored Battleship pilots? What a shame! Why not make a capital ship captains day and double your nominal loss by hiring a chap to put those mega beam lasers to better use than popping mindless guristas and blood pirates?
When all is said and done piracy *is* difficult ą clearly; itĘs a borderline black industry for frustrated idealists and psychotic drop outs mingling in the sink holes of the galaxy ą traders do make a lot more money than pirates; so do miners, so do manufacturers, so indeed to appalling blueprint scamster outfits. Opposed to this; pirates and brigands are part detritus of society, part romantic throughback, and part darwinian principle in action. Call them what you will but never believe they have taken an easy path to wealth and grandeur.
And as for open combat;
Gentlemen and ladies, one can hardly expect a collection of Caldari abstract space art cheaply masquerading as warships to stand and fight against prepared corporate military response ą. After all, these Moas and Black Birds are optimised for trapping and scanning unarmed vessels ą they would quite properly be eaten alive by front line combat cruisers. Running like yellow dogs is simply the only option for these chaps! While mainstream corps may replace their losses within hours, the pirate gangs build their vessels from spit, twigs and gaffa tape, and lovingly cherish every one as well they must!
So my advice to fellow citizens who have been fleeced and don't like it is somewhat simple;
Pay if you get caught, Then hire your revenge on the open market,
Why should the settling of scores be any less businesslike than the earning of ISK and the paying of ransoms?
Last night Jericho lost around 9m ISK worth of cruiser and equipment .. thus it is eminently reasonable to stump up another 9m to buy a little payback non? On which note;
4m for MollyĘs corpse is my current offer. Delivery of such to a Jericho office will be warmly received.
Ta ta!

Ah m'dear Athule, so stern, so ominous,
Actually, I think the delightfully wicked Miss Molly has paid us a complement;
We were passing the blockade somewhat thoughtlessly ... I think I passed it a few times without noticing before the malfunctioning warp gate almost got me pranged!
Seems what killed Ragadude was indecision as much as anything; its a hard fact of life, but run or fight tactical analysis needs to be made well within the period of a blackbird lock-on cycle.
But on the not-making of threats my Dear Director of Military Genetics ... the trick is in the not making of 'em ... ya see.
Ah ce la vie, the truth is that injustice and evil attains a measure of gravity independent of circumstance, attracting malign forces and wide misfortune even as dark matter against the double helix of stars wields influence as subtle as it is pervasive and inescapable. 'tis not for mortal minds to compass the movement of divine interaction in the spheres of abandoned jealous pride.
*musing*
Ah well, 'twas most pleasant to see you again this morning Molly, and fair passage paid was no robbery done.
But do pass my reproach to thy master Setec; he has been most discourtious in avoiding my invitation to dine... a lady could take offense at such nithling past abandonment...
Adieu mon cherie

Master Saladin,
I must say I am very impressed with your tenacity and bullish devotion to defense of an insecure and somewhat hopeless position; its inspiritional in tragicomic doomed romantic way.
On the other hand; these are literally highway robbers we are talking about and with, and they are entirely unrepetentant about the lifestyle choice.
Seems to me your corp mate did get away luckily with an error. Once you are resolved to pay you may as well get the cash transfer right.
I'm markedly less impressed by the challenge to duel 1v1 and subsequent retraction though; pshhhhhh .... thats a bit poor you have to admit.
For my part I'd be quite interested to fight Setec and see how a Moa fairs against a Maller in a straight up fight; be tricky to balance the environment though .. an awful lot would be down to starting range and situation I expect.
Anyhow ... its been an interesting discussion, I just hope you learn from the experience (and fit MWD's to your cruisers for transit) Sensibly speaking ... the only cruisers approaching a known blockade without MWD should be going there to fight.
Always in the service of beauty ...

Ah monsieur Setec,
How kind, I would love to, but alas the weekend social calender is all too pressing. Mayhap a moment in the week to come? The Great Wildlands do sound enticing and most intriguing to boot. I am sure we can find a moment to hunt and sip dark wine together beneath the stars.
Regarding the "duel" ... there is no need to make it to the death; till shields are shorn and armour creaks and one cries "uncle" is a fine way to test the mettle of one's foe without the need for shattered bulkheads and explosive decompression.
I do take your point though ... webified and jammed might be dashed frustrating; I have wondered though if the blackbird can put out enough damage before the cap drains to break a regening maller (thus trapped and locked) beneath the ecm's scant mercy?
But by the by, the invitation is well received and scantwise cause for offense hereafter; mayhap we can test our prowess on other foes than mortal tryst and violent close embrace ...
Till then good master Setec,
Adieu!

In my defence kind monsieur Setec, IĘd argue a certain poetic slant to language is a diversion in a world of swift epithets and gutter dialectic. ętis neither better nor worse than the common tongue oft-bespoken, yet different, and we Gallente so loath the process of crash uniformityą
And yet my dashing highwaymen, your own words stand you fast condemned of whatever charge of romantic excess might gage me fairwise guilty; a veritable quandary of ironic misstatement my dear sir.
Still, one must master many voices as an entertainments counsellor to the Amarrian court; many roles and many the strange personas oft-required. Suffice it thus to say I rather liked the role of pre-industrial courtesan to a fool who liked to be bound in golden ropes and robbed at gunpoint by a masked temptress.
A shame for his career I chose one day to leave in earnest; and not simple ****et fripperies the haul from that hogtied ninny, but the access codes for his bank and family hanger.
I kept the holographs though; one can never overestimate the value of mutual trade interests in crisis negotiation.
Trust this answers the question dear Setec;
We all have our past sins to carry. (And I carried mine away in monsieur XĘs family Bestower)

Ah, you are so right alas, still, the jobbing auteur has little choice in the direction fate's whimsy fast dictates, and yes m'dear, needs must we sacrifice our comfort for the goals of distant dreams and bright liberty thereafter.
Yet, and yet, I must confess though I have found lovers as richly diverse as the distant stars, the caldari ... fine perhaps from the perspective of manufactured perfection; but I find myself yearning for wilder pastures oftimes ... mayhap the cloning process brings a certain uniformity of form my heart rebels against.
The caldari society is too ordered for my taste; too stuctured, too stratified ... too laden with societal norms and conventional regard;
But sir, forgive me, you who have have taken the laws of the caldari and broken them to fragmentary mosiacs of ironic understatement need no tutelage in the politics of criminal resistance to baseline inherited morality and custom.
My fine regards ...

somewhere in Venal Region the good ship "Summer Rain" is hiding against majesty of stars below the plane of the eliptic - wounded, chased, even now sought eagerly by the hunters of the Venal alliance; proud warriors most taken with their sport
Jade turns from long range scans for a moment, assured that the quad lifs are taking the vessel further from potential discovery and destruction with every passing minute.
Josephine's voice over long range comms is a pleasant distraction from the excitement, as indeed is the game of concealed identity and gender confusion ongoing between Gallente and Caldari captains.
"... a man who can tell when it'd be beneficial for him not to be afraid to act directly on his temptations... Unfortunately, it's not a skill that one can buy on the market and train, non?"
The voice is teasing ... concealing passion beneath caldari reserve, but thoughts of truth elsewhere, or far too subtly buried in the game of carnivale misdirection.
Jade smiles, checking scans anew and powering down the engines in prepation for silent running and sleep.
"Nor mon cherie," she whispers, "do they sell the skill packs to teach caldari maidens the difference between gallente boys and gallente girls it would seem; but no great matter if the distinction is not one those implications you consider important m'dear."
